Summary of 2012 pre season testing at Jerez Spain

The 2012 formula one season is around the corner. Yeah! Usually I read the news from various websites and even comment on them. For this year I want my opinion to count or at least have my own blog to publish comments that are shared with some of you.

This week we had the first 2012 pre-season test at Jerez, Spain. It was interesting to see various world champions share time on the same track: Raikkonen, Schumacher, Hamilton, Alonso and Button. Here is a summary of the pre-season tests at Jerez and what we could expect for the 2012 formula one season:

Day 1 (Tuesday, Feb 7, 2012): Raikkonen (Lotus) went quickest with a time of 1m19.670s around the Jerez track. He was followed by Paul di Resta (Force India) and Nico Rosberg (Mercedes). Nico was running the 2011 car.

Day 2 (Wednesday, Feb 8, 2012): Schumacher (Mercedes) faster than the rest with a time of 1m18,561s at Jerez. He was followed by Mark Webber (Red Bull) and Daniel Ricciardo (Toro Rosso). Mercedes again running the 2011 car.

Day 3 (Thursday, Feb 9, 2012): Rosberg (Mercedes) improved the lap time to 1m17.613s at Jerez. He was followed by Grosjean (Lotus) and Vettel (Red Bull). Again, Nico was running the 2011 car.

Day 4 (Friday, Feb 10, 2012):  Alonso now fastest at Jerez with a time of 1m18.877s. He was followed by Vergne (Toro Rosso) and Vettel (Red Bull).

There were various red flags caused by some incidents, but in general the pre season testing enjoyed nice sunny weather at the Jerez Circuit. By the way, Jerez is not part of the formula one racing calender. It is mainly used by F1 for testing purposes. It used to host F1 races in 1986 to 1991, but because Barcelona has a better venue (Circuit de Catalunya), F1 races moved there since 1991. Anyhow, now the preseason testing will resume at Barcelona, Circuit de Catalunya, on February 21st.
